When Do I Need a Dental Crown in Cornelius?

Patients wonder why a crown is more needed than a filling. If your tooth sustains an injury, infection, or decay that causes damage beyond the scope of what a dental filling can repair, we’ll recommend a dental crown to repair your tooth.

A tooth crown replaces your entire tooth structure, fitting over it like a cap. Since it’s designed to restore both the function and esthetics you enjoyed with your natural tooth, it will be customized to match your smile. It also protects the integrity of your root, which offers better longevity for your tooth.

What Is a Dental Bridge in Cornelius?

Patients living with one or more adjacent missing teeth could benefit from a dental bridge. A bridge utilizes your healthy teeth as anchors with crowns that support prosthetic teeth designed to fill in the gap.

Our dentists in Cornelius, will customize your bridge to complement your smile and offer the function you were missing due to tooth loss. Keeping your anchor teeth clean and healthy with excellent home care and regular dental checkups will ensure the longevity of your bridge.

Implant-Supported Restorations

Dental implants can also be used to support a tooth crown or dental bridge in Cornelius, NC, making them a great option for patients with multiple missing teeth. Implants can be strategically placed to anchor a bridge, which offers better longevity over time because the implants protect the health of your bone by restoring your root. With the right care and consistent dental checkups, implants can potentially last for a lifetime.

For patients missing most or all of their teeth, a denture is a great option for restoring both form and function to their smile. A few dental implants can be placed to support a denture, and this will offer a more secure and stable fit than a traditional denture.

Great Dentistry Done Well

Everyone knows how much fun it is to go to the dentist? But really, this was a great experience. The newest equipment makes the process almost effortless and the staff is extremely friendly and accommodating. I can only guess about the timetable, but after about 40 years one of my molars, that had previously been filled, cracked. The only recourse was a crown. This required grinding down the old tooth to prep for the new crown. With Dr. Jill applying the appropriate numbing agent, I never felt a thing. A temporary crown was prepared and inserted. I had it in for about two weeks and it was so good it felt like a real tooth. When the new crown came in it was about a 15 minute procedure to remove the temporary an replace with the permanent. A couple of days later, I returned for a minor grinding on the crown to prevent some rubbing I was experiencing on the opposing tooth. I called and was taken that same day. Now all is perfect. Very pleased with Cornelius Dentistry. ”

Frequently Asked Questions

Crowns and Bridges
Why do I need a crown, and not a filling?
https://www.corneliusdentistry.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/girl-question.png

Our goal at Cornelius Dentistry is to help you achieve and maintain a healthy and beautiful smile for a lifetime. Sometimes this requires restoring a tooth. Fillings are ideal for repairing the damage done by tooth decay. If your tooth sustains an injury, infection, lost restoration, or decay that’s bigger than a filling can handle, we’ll recommend a dental crown to repair your tooth.

What A Dental Crown Can Do

A crown replaces your entire tooth, fitting over your remaining structure like a cap. We custom design it to provide excellent function and esthetics so it will complement your smile and you’ll be able to eat and chew with ease.

The Crown Prep Process

Dr. Woodruff can typically complete a crown in two appointments. At the first visit, we’ll prepare your tooth for your final restoration, and you’ll leave with a temporary crown to wear until the dental laboratory finishes your permanent crown. In 1 to 2 weeks, you’ll return to our office to have your final crown permanently placed.

You’ll appreciate that Dr. Woodruff uses the best dental materials and works with the top dental laboratories in the area so you can trust that your restoration is one you can rely on for many years.
